Phyllis Brewster-Durr

Phyllis Jane Brewster-Durr, 76, died June 2, 2008 at Marion Estates.

She was born May 18, 1932 in Cottage Gove to Elma and Walter Brewster. She attended elementary school in Viola.

The family later moved to Idaho, where she graduated from Midvale High School in 1950. She married Richard Jarchow in 1951. They later divorced.

Mrs. Brewster-Durr returned to school and graduated from Oregon College of Education with a bachelor of science degree in 1969. She then worked at Fairview Hospital for mentally retarded. Later she worked as a correctional officer at the Women’s Penitentiary in Salem.

Phyllis married Lee Durr in 1975 and they spent their retirement years as campground hosts in the Hells Canyon Recreation area for 16 years and spent many winters in Arizona.

She is survived by her husband, Lee; her three sons, Walter Brewster of Sheridan, Ronald Jarchow of Independence and Christopher Brewster of Molalla; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Barbara Sheldbourn of Grand Ronde.

A memorial service was held June 6 at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel.

Cremation ashes were placed in Highland Cemetery. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
