The Sweet Home Planning Commission recognized 10 projects for its annual Quality Development Awards.
Awards went to the following persons and groups:
– Steelhead Strength and Fitness, including Dave and Desi Barringer, David and Vicki Bauer and Ivan Vandehei, for refurbishing the building at 1295 Main St., the former site of Coast to Coast Hardware and Dollar Bills.
– Ross Murray for the development of the Spring Terrace subdivision, Mimosa Circle, off 49th Avenue.
– Mike Rassbach and the Sweet Home Ranger District for the remodel of the old work center. The building now serves as the Ranger District’s office.
– Mac and Liz Olsen for the remodel of the Sweet Home Funeral Chapel, formerly Workman & Steckly Funeral Chapel.
– Bob Naslund for the house at 660 Oak Terrace, a complete restoration.
It had become a run-down triplex, Community Development Director Carol Lewis said. The Naslund family grew up there, and Naslund purchased and restored the home.
– Tanna and Ray Thompson for the remodel of Mollies Bakery.
– Alice Grovom for her ongoing beautification efforts, which includes the Highway 20 median strip among many other projects.
“She just keeps going,” Lewis said. “She’s like the Energizer Bunny.”
– Sherri Gregory for the enhancement of 4850 and 4870 48th Loop.
The commission came up with that nomination, Lewis said. The units after being built had started getting run down. Gregory took over management and cleaned them up.
– Danny McCubbins for the new home at 549 Mountain View Drive.
He had obstacles, like the 50-foot riparian area on Ames Creek and the 100-year floodplain, Lewis said, and the commission thought he did a nice job with the home.
– The Over the Rivers and Through the Woods Scenic Byway Committee, including Tim McQueary, Anita Leach, Brian Carrol, Carla Claasen, Craig Martin, Joanne West, Mandy Cole and Mary Mansfield.
