Police chief search down to 2 finalists

The public will have an opportunity to meet the two finalists for police chief, Jeff Lynn and Steven Annetts, during a community social from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Police Services Building, 1950 Main St.

Twenty-five applicants responded to the city of Sweet Home’s recruitment to succeed Police Chief Bob Burford who will retire from service in June.

Six were selected for panel interviews, background checks and written assessments. Three finalists were chosen to participate in a final round of selection. Of those, one candidate has withdrawn to assume the chief of police position in the city of Juneau, Alaska.

The remaining finalists are Lynn, a 14-year veteran of the Sweet Home Police Department who is a sergeant, and Chief Steven Annetts, a 20-year veteran of the Pickerington, Ohio, Police Department and current chief of police in Douglas, Wyo.

Pending the outcome of the final selection process and related background checks, City Manager Craig Martin expects to announce Sweet Home’s new chief of police in the first part of May and anticipates his first day on the job to be no later than June 30.
