Police investigate brush fire

The Sweet Home Police Department is investigating the cause of a brush fire that burned one-quarter of an acre Sunday afternoon, June 25, north of the railroad tracks near 47th Avenue and Osage Street.

According to a SHPD release, officers heard via radio Sweet Home Fire and Ambulance District and Oregon Department of Forestry personnel responding to the scene, which, as per PulsePoint, was reported at around 3:17 p.m.

Upon arrival, police officers learned that ODF members had seen smoke in the area, found the fire and then, with Sweet Home fire crews, worked to extinguish it. A subsequent investigation uncovered remnants of an encampment where a cooking fire was believed to have resulted in the incident.

Anyone with any information is encouraged to contact SHPD Officer Tyler Robinson (541) 367-5181, referencing case number 202304777.
