Sweet Home police are investigating an apparent arson, which destroyed a motor home early Friday morning.
Firefighters responded to the fire at 1:35 a.m. The motor home was parked in the driveway of the old shingle mill, on property owned by Lester Sales, behind the Point Restaurant off Riggs Hill Road.
Fire Chief Dave Barringer determined the fire was suspicious following his investigation into the fire.
The fire didn’t start in the engine compartment, Barringer said, and he could identify no ignition sources elsewhere in the vehicle.
The registered owner, Richard Lovato, died in 2010, said Police Chief Jeff Lynn.
Police arrested Loyd Patten, 49, on Nov. 3 for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle in relation to another case.
Patten was in possession of the motor home at that time. He had it at Shea Point, across Highway 20 from the Point Restaurant,
