An Albany Police detective shot at a moving car during a Wednesday, Jan. 26, arrest for multiple warrants in the parking lot of Bob’s Family Market in Albany.
According to an Albany Police Department news release, 31-year-old Kagen Ray Sandoval, of Corvallis, attempted to use his vehicle as a weapon during the incident. The detective fired one shot but did not hit the suspect, police said.
Sandoval was treated for minor injuries at a local area hospital and released into custody. He is currently being held at Linn County Jail on existing warrants, plus additional charges of felon in possession of a weapon (handgun), attempt to elude, resisting arrest, reckless endangerment and four counts of criminal mischief. His passenger, 26-year-old Jaedyn Suzanna Peck, of Albany, was also jailed for multiple no-bail arrest warrants.
The involved detective, who was assigned to the Linn Interagency Narcotics Enforcement task force, was placed on critical incident leave, as determined by department policy and national best practices. The Lebanon Police Department is leading an investigation with assistance from the Linn Benton Major Crimes Team.
The Linn County Sheriff’s Office and Oregon State Police also provided assistance at the scene.
