Editor:
Let’s all take a deep breath, step back, and realize that the election is over. Not everyone was happy with the results, and that is to be expected in a democratic form of government.
Nevertheless, we have a new president who was elected by a huge majority in the Electoral College and a convincing margin in the popular vote.
We need to put partisan politics aside, realize that this nation has enormous challenges facing it, and put aside our self interest to work toward measures that will cure, rather than medicate the disease.
President-elect Obama has more on his plate than any of us could ever deal with. He is in the process of assembling a team to begin taking action upon his inauguration, and, by all indications, is using a deliberate methodology to do so. I have been impressed with his aggressive and conscientious approach, while showing deference to the current administration.
We need to give this man a chance to get his feet wet in the quagmire of governance and support him in the process. It will not be easy, the decisions he makes will not all be popular, and there is some pain to come.
The economy is the premier issue with which he must deal, and it is not a battle for the faint of heart. This recession, unlike any other, is going to test our resolve. Let us pray for and with the man at the tiller.
