Quit complaints and volunteer

Editor:

My letter is in response to Ms. Lawrence’s latest letter to The New Era (Dec. 13). Every letter is always the same, complaining about something or someone. It is time for you to move on or move out.

If you don’t like our city and how our elected officials choose to budget money, live somewhere else. You are constantly stirring the pot, trying to find anything and everything to complain about. You obviously have a skewed idea on what a town is and how it should be run.

I have absolutely no problem with the officers of the Sweet Home Police Department helping a council member look for their dog. Police officers help people regardless if they have broken a law or not. It is time to move on and get off Councilman Gourley’s back.

Ms. Lawrence, I challenge you and your group of “Community Complaining Comrades” (CCC) to do something positive with your time.

Instead of writing a new negative letter to editor every week, you should volunteer. I know that the Sweet Home School District is looking for lunch buddies for elementary students.

What a great way to contribute to our community in a positive way because, well, all of your contributions – namely, your letters to the editor – are a little bit on the negative side. Maybe spending some time with a child who would be glad to see you every week would open your eyes and the CCC would see that this community is really about helping people.

Your letters help no one. Most of them are offensive and on the verge of abusive.

Many of your past letters have highlighted the negatives instead of the positives of this community. If you accept the challenge of becoming a lunch buddy, maybe you could send a weekly progress report to editor highlighting the positive things you did the previous week with your lunch buddy. Ms. Lawrence step up to the challenge or move on.

Your negative letters will just continue to burn bridges and down the road people will tune you out and then what will you do?

Anyone interested in becoming a lunch buddy should contact Joan Pappin at the Sweet Home School District Office. Volunteers are required to pass a background check and get fingerprinted.
