Ray Towry to be new city manager

The City Council and Raymond Towry have reached agreement on terms for the vacant city manager’s position and Towry has accepted the job, the city announced Wednesday morning, Oct. 26.

He is scheduled to begin work on or about Tuesday, Nov. 8.

Towry is parks, recreation, public relations and tourism (Community Services) director for the city of Ephrata, Wash., where he has been since 2004.

He is president of the Grant County Economic Development Council and serves on the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.

Towry is also the president and owner of Recreational Services, LLC, a private business he operates. He holds a master of public administration degree from the University of Washington and a bachelor of arts degree in business from Washington State University.

The Mayor and City Council announced the selection of Towry after completion of a recruitment and hiring process that concluded Oct. 3. The field of candidates included applicants from Oregon and several other states. Towry was one of two finalists who participated in various rounds of selection activities which included a community meet and greet, public interaction, personal interview and extensive background investigation and evaluation.
