Ready for a change of scenery? Try Yaquina Head

During this holiday season, the Bureau of Land Management invites visitors to enjoy storm watching, whale watching, hiking, exploring exhibits in the Interpretive Center or touring the historic lighthouse at Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area.

Guided tours of Yaquina Head Lighthouse will be conducted daily, Friday through Tuesday, at 12, 1, 2 and 3 p.m. Sign up at the Interpretive Center the day of the tour.

Whale Watch Week is Dec. 27-31. Trained observers will be on hand at Yaquina Head from 10:00 a.m. to 1 p.m. to help visitors spot the migrating gray whales.

During storms, watch the sea-foam whirlwinds at Quarry Cove and view the big breakers rolling in. Remember to stay back from the surf and keep an eye out for sneaker waves.

The park entrance fee is $7 per vehicle for a Three-Day Pass. During the month of December, visitors receive a $5 discount on the Oregon Pacific Coast Passport Annual Pass. Consider buying a pass for yourself or for a gift that lasts all year. Passes can be purchased at the Interpretive Center, which will be open daily from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. (closed Christmas Day). All other areas of the park will be open from 8 a.m. to sunset, seven days a week (including Christmas and New Years Day).
