Elmira 70, Sweet Home 31
The Huskies lost 70-31 in girls varsity basketball to Elmira Friday night at home.
Elmira held a 17-12 lead early in the game, said Coach Robby Robinson. “Then we stopped rebounding, and the next score was 30-12.”
The girls put together a small run to close the lead to 30-17, but Elmira expanded its lead throughout the rest of the game.
The Huskies had a season-low 16 turnovers on the night, Robinson said. “We didn’t shoot real well, and we didn’t rebound well enough.”
Annie Whitfield put up good numbers on the game, with 16 points and nine rebounds. Jordan Miller added six rebounds.
Overall, the team’s lack of size has made it difficult to come up with the needed boards, Robinson said.
Shooting percentages were low, with two threes connected out of 27 attempts.
“When you’re small, if you get good looks for threes, that’s what you want,” Robinson said. “We’re getting the looks, and we didn’t turn the ball over as much.”
The team just hasn’t been connecting on the shots, scoring two of 29 attempts.
Sarah Wyatt added five points; Kendell Anderson, three; Jasmin Yoder, three; Jade Corliss, two; and Sabrina Davis, two.
