A Redmond man was killed Monday evening, Nov. 14, in a two-vehicle crash involving a Lebanon Fire Department pumper truck near milepost 16 on Hwy. 20, west of Sodaville-Waterloo Road.
The collision was reported shortly after 6:30 p.m.
A preliminary Oregon State Police investigation revealed that 30-year-old Kevin Gonzales, of Redmond, was traveling westbound in a silver Toyota Yaris when he crossed into oncoming traffic and struck the red Freightliner fire truck driven by 40-year-old Kyle Kempner of Lebanon.
Gonzales was killed while Kempner received minor injuries.
The subsequent OSP Collision Reconstruction Unit investigation affected Hwy. 20 traffic for four hours. Travelers were detoured via Cascade Drive.
Prior to the collision, police said, Gonzales’ vehicle was reported to have been driving erratically. As a result, police are investigating impairment as a contributing factor in the crash.
Oregon State Police personnel were assisted at the scene by the Lebanon fire and police departments, the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, the Bend and Redmond police departments and Oregon Department of Transportation.
