Remembering Mattie

Teachers Ryan Graville, center and Drew Emmert, decked out in camouflage, listen as student Mary Rouse sings the national anthem during a Sweet Home High School assembly Thursday, Nov. 5. Students and teachers made a point of wearing camo that day to honor the memory of Matthew “Mattie” VanBrocklin, who drowned in the South Santiam River while fishing on Oct. 29. Principal Ralph Brown led students in a moment of silence in VanBrocklin’s honor before the anthem.
