Replanting key to ‘nuked’ forest

Editor:

This is in regards to Carol Roberts’ letter in the Sept. 6 paper, about her concern for the “nuked” wilderness area across the Foster Lake from the Point. I would like to inform her and others that area is not wilderness but private property.

Below and to the east of the logged area is a regenerated stand on private property that some years ago I helped replant. I am positive that I haven’t heard or read any complaints about its appearance.

So, folks, please understand that I and people like me are there to replant that so-called area of “ruination,” so that years later from now others can enjoy looking across the lake at those trees or maybe enjoy the benefit of owning that forest land and possibly harvesting the trees once more.

Now Carol, this tree growing process does take time. Some people may not get to see the end result on the particular piece of land, but go ahead and look at the neighboring area of land that I planted for people to look at and for the future harvest.

Try to remember that as you look across the savored waters of Foster Lake, that timbered area was “nuked” to a lifeless aftermath to accommodate our beautiful lake. You can see all those stumps when the lake is drained every winter.
