Rescue on Gordon Meadows Trail

A hiker was rescued Tuesday afternoon, May 6, after a search by Linn County Search and Rescue team members and Sweet Home Fire and Ambulance personnel, SHFAD reported.  Crews responded for a hiker on the Gordon Meadows trail, 27 miles east of Sweet Home, who contacted 911 via text for a medical emergency. Twelve personnel from Sweet Home Fire and seven SAR members responded. The patient, who was not hiking alone, but whom SHFAD did not identify, was carried out in a stokes rescue basket, but refused further medical treatment or transport by ambulance, SHFAD said. Due to the remote location and a lack of good cell coverage, communications were hampered and pinpointing the patient’s location was a challenge. It took an hour and 40 minutes for crews to reach the patient.
