RFRA simply GOP taking your rights

Editor:

Laws like these Religious Freedom Restoration Acts are how the Republicans/corporations slowly take your rights and protections away.

They have a group specifically set up to craft bills called ALEC (American Legislative Exchange Council). ALEC is an organization of conservative state legislators and corporations that drafts and shares model state-level legislation for distribution among state governments. Their objective, their mission, is to dismantle government and transfer power into their hands by any means possible.

Three co-authors of the Indiana RFRA are ALEC Task Force committee chairs. Three of the people standing in a photo of the private signing of this bill are professional anti-LGBT lobbyists.

A lot of their bills might look outwardly innocuous but they’re actually like screwworm larvae… consuming America from the inside out.

Anyway, old Wal-Mart came out – proud – against these RFRA laws and discrimination in general, all while bankrolling a quiet, multi-state lobbying effort to undermine our traditional workers’ compensation laws by opt-out laws! Joining Wal-Mart are two dozen other companies (Safeway, Lowe’s, Nordstrom, Macy’s, Kohl’s, Sysco, Hobby Lobby, Big Lots Stores…)

They call themselves the Association for Responsible Alternatives to Workers’ Compensation (ARAWC).

In Texas and Oklahoma where employers can already opt out and write their own private worker’s compensation laws, Wal-Mart’s private W.C. plan makes it so Wal-Mart is in total control of your medical care (physician, facility…).

And unlike regular Worker’s Compensation, treatments covered are stripped to the bone and there’s a $300,000 cap no matter how bad or permanently injured you might be. If there’s arbitration, Wal-Mart chooses the arbiter. And you lose Sec. 451.001 of Texas’ W.C. Act, which prohibits an employer from terminating or retaliating against a worker because they have filed a workers comp claim. Wow.

So we have to be like Terminex when it comes to these screwworm (a flesh-eating fly, by the way) laws. Not here, not now, not in my house. This is America.

Maybe it’s time to divide America up again. Right along the same basic lines as before.

All you hardcore conservatives and religious fundamentalist groups can go back to your Dixie land and take your war debt with you. The rest of us will live in peace, maybe join up with Canada, if they’ll have us.

On another note, just when Americans were starting to consume less meats (a good thing), in comes the People’s Republic of China and buys our Smithfield Foods, producer of the iconic holiday ham, etc.

The deal included extensive land holdings in 12 states, 2,700 factory pig farms. They love America because of our strong property rights laws (we’ll never get that land back), our much cleaner land/water/air, a billion less people to compete with and our willingness to sell anything to the highest bidder. The PRC, on the other hand, does not sell strategic assets or land. National security, ya know.

Here in America, greed trumps national security.

China’s total number of market pigs in 2014 was 735.1 million head and they want more! So production at Smithfield America will increase, which is extremely bad news. Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations are deadly toxic! Google “Boss Hog: The Dark Side of America’s Top Pork Producer.” Make sure you’re not eating while reading.

Does the world have the land/water to waste feeding China’s pigs? Goodbye, Amazon rainforest.

Chinese immigrants are now the third-largest foreign-born group in the United States after Mexicans and Indians. First our jobs, now they’re coming for our country. Greed trumps patriotism.

“Only after the last tree has been cut down. Only after the last river has been poisoned. Only after the last fish has been caught. Only then will you find that money cannot be eaten.”
