Rice Logging float earns lighted parade sweepstakes trophy

For the second year in a row, Rice Logging kicked heavy equipment off its lowboy trailer and built a winter wonderland that earned the grand prize in the annual Chamber of Commerce Lighted Parade.

Family members spent 10 hours, starting Friday evening at 5 p.m., preparing the brightly lit truck and trailer, according to Heather Swanson.

“We really enjoy doing it and the kids especially enjoy the fact that it’s a lighted parade,” Swanson said.

The tractor unit of the float was loaded with bright lights.

The trailer featured a large blow-up Christmas tree, a sleigh pulled by four reindeer and a blow up Grinch at the rear.

Family members rode the float as well, adding a special touch.

Several family members took part in preparing the display, including Matt Riggs and Robert Rice, Doug Rice and family, the Swansons and friends Justin and Dena Chafin.

This was the second year in a row that Rice Logging has won the sweepstakes trophy.

The parade followed the lighting of the community Christmas tree at the corner of 18h and Long Streets.

Mayor Tim McQueary welcomed guests and community members as the lights were turned on and an ensemble from the Singing Christmas Tree sang a spoof on the 12 Days of Christmas directed by Paul Rowton.
