Richard Barker

May 14, 1907 – May 22, 2006

Richard James Barker, 99, of Albany, died at the Menonnite Home May 22, 2006.

He was born in Cromer, Norfolk, England to Robert and Helen (Davies) Barker.

He served in the English Navy in WWII and married Lilian Smith in England. She died in 1970.

Mr. Barker later married Ruth in Sweet Home in 1980. He was a commercial fisherman, who served on a Cromer Life Boat Crew as a youth. He came from England in 1979 and settled in Sweet Home, where he was a member of the Sweet Home Menonnite Church.

Mr. Barker is survived by his son-in-law, Gary Linkel, five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lilian; second wife, Ruth; his children, Cyril James Barker and Julia Christine Linkel; and sister, Hilda Fabb.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 31, at the Sweet Home Mennonite Church.
