Richard Reid

Sept. 29, 1938 – Feb. 8, 2012

Richard Wayne Reid, 73, a former Sweet Home resident, died Feb. 8, 2012 in Scio.

He was born Sept. 29, 1938 in Mehama, one of four children, to the late Carl and Dorothy Reid.

He spent the majority of his childhood and school years in Sweet Home, marrying his high school sweetheart, Sylvia Ruth Neuschwanger, on Oct. 7, 1956.

Over the years, Mr. Reid also lived in Albany and in Tillamook, where he served as PT residential security at Jones Creek Park while hauling logs in the area. He loved Oregon and never desired to live anywhere else. He enjoyed RV travel and one of his last destinations was to his favorite spot on the Oregon Coast – “Tilly,” as he referred to Tillamook.

Mr. Reid’s love of working with engines led him to own and operate R.S. Reid Trucking most of his life. It also inspired him to restore a variety of automobiles, trucks and equipment over the years, of which he was very proud.

He was a quiet, unassuming, very giving man who was quite fond of and will be dearly missed by his family, friends, coffee buddies and extended family.

Mr. Reid is survived by his loving wife, Sylvia Reid of Scio; son Laurence Lee Reid of Afton, Va., one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Saundra Jeannie Reid Wurgler; and a brother, Aubry LeRoy Reid.

A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, to be conducted by Pastor Steve Blanchard and Dr. Richard Jenks at Skyline Assembly of God, 38520 Highway 220, Scio. Family graveside services will be held at a later date.

The family requests that donations be made to the Willamette Humane Society in Salem, where the Reids rescued their beloved boxer Abby, with whom Mr. Reid is now reunited.
