Robert Anderson

Robert “Bo” Clarkston Anderson, 81, of Valliant, Okla., died on May 17, 2007 in Hugo, Okla.

He was born on Dec. 4, 1925 in Valliant, Okla., the son of Osborn Anderson and Eltie (Farrris) Anderson and lived in the Valliant community most of his life.

He married Fayrene Speck on Aug. 10, 1946 in DeQueen, Ark.

Mr. Anderson was a master electrician and oversaw the construction of three sawmills and traveled extensively for Willamette Industries.

He enjoyed backpacking and hiking. He hiked many trails from Missouri to Oreogn. He also liked to garden, fish and hunt.

He was a World War II veteran, serving as a navy radar operator on the Ringold DD 500 destroyer.

He was a charter member of the Sweet Home Elks Lodge and a member of Disabled American Veterans, the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by his wife, Fayrene Anderson of Valliant, Okla.; son, Robert Irwen Anderson of Valliant, Okla.; daughter, Carla Maye Smith of Battiest, Okla.; brother, Buddy Anderson of Valliant, Okla.; sister, Geneva Swisher of Elgin; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Bill J. Anderson and Kenneth Anderson.

The family received friends on May 19 at the Miller Funeral Home, which handled the arrangements. A funeral service was held on May 20 at Watermill Baptist Church in Valliant, Okla. Interment followed at Valliant Cemetery.

Gerda Ritter

Nov. 3, 1919 – May 20, 2007

Gerda Marie Ritter, 87, of Sweet Home died May 20, 2007.

She was born Nov. 3, 1919 to Christ and Anine Nielsen in Tved, Denmark. She grew up on Puget Island after immigrating to the United States from Denmark. During World War II, she moved with her husband to several naval stations on the East Coast and the Great Lakes.

Mrs. Ritter moved to Sweet Home in 1967 from The Dalles. Prior to that she had resided in Bridgeport, Wash.; Bonneville and Westport. She enjoyed needlework, sewing and gardening.

She is survived by her spouse, George R. Ritter of Sweet Home; daughter, Susan M. Henriksson and husband Roger of Albany, N.Y.; brothers, Robert and Eugene Nielsen of Poulsbo and Longview, Wash. and sisters, Neta Sala and Mona Jenson of Portland and Clatskanie.

Gerda was preceded in death by brothers, Paul Nielson, Nels Nielsen, Gunnar Nielsen, Harry Nielsen and Melvin Nielsen and sisters, Marna Hovvie, Anna Dunmire and Elsie Elssasser.

No services are scheduled at this time.

Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
