Robert Gregory June 29, 1928 – Jan. 8, 2017

Robert Irving Gregory, 88, of Springfield passed away surrounded by his family Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017.

Bob was born June 29, 1928 in Redlands, Calif. to Carlton and Gladys Gregory. The family moved between Redlands and Fall Creek until settling near Holley in 1940.

Bob graduated Sweet Home High School in 1946 and worked in a shingle mill until he was drafted into the U. S. Army 40th Infantry Division in 1950 where he served in Korea.

On Feb. 6, 1951 Bob married Betty Hayes and they had five children together. In 1959 he enrolled in Northwest Christian College graduating in 1965 with a bachelor’s degree in theology.

He ministered to the First Christian Church in Athena, followed by nearly 20 years at Marcola Christian Church.

Bob was an avid fisherman, trolling Dorena Reservoir in his aluminum boat until last summer. He was an enthusiastic pinochle player engaging in weekly games with Betty and several close friends.

Family was central to Bob’s life. He enjoyed regular multi-generational gatherings. Bob was dedicated to serving God and looked for opportunities to help others whenever he could. He will be fondly remembered by the many individuals whose lives he touched over the years.

Bob is survived by his wife, Betty; his twin sister, Roberta; his brothers Paul and Kenneth; children Peggy (Dean) Stephens, Susan (David) Leedom, Ronald (Lynn) Gregory, Joan (Randy) Mogen, and Dianne (John) McIntosh; grandchildren Nathan (Gena) Stephens, Amy (Josh) Smith, Joshua Stephens, Clifford Leedom, William Leedom, Elissa Moore, Eryn (Andrew) Southwell, Andrew (Heidi) Gregory, Emily (Mikhail) Timoshevskiy, Charles Mogen, Olga Mogen, and Annalee McIntosh; thirteen great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by brothers James, Roy, and Leo; and sisters Lois and Anna Rose.

A memorial service was held Jan. 16 at Garden Way Church in Eugene. Bob was interred at Valley View Cemetery in Springfield.
