Robert Harer

Robert Paul Harer, 82, of Sweet Home, died March 29.

He was born Dec. 25, 1926 in Phoenix, Ariz. When his father died, he took over the responsibility of helping his mother, Thelma, and five younger siblings.

Mr. Harer served in the Army briefly. He had many types of jobs from soda jerk to log truck owner/driver.

He and his wife Marjorie moved to Oregon November 1962 with their three children. They lived first on Green Peter, and then Crawfordsville, where they were custom poultry growers. His last job was as a parts chaser for Melcher Logging.

Mr. Harer attended Community Chapel and participated in the Empty Nesters group. He also enjoyed classic country western music, and even sang along.

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie; daughter Pam Barbee of Sweet Home; sons Keven Harer and wife Jan of Hillsboro, and Scott Harer of Sweet Home; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; siblings Jack Harer and wife Arlene of Arizona, Bonnie Bean of California, and Jesse Harer of California.

Mr. Harer was preceded in death by his brother, Bill Harer; two sisters, Carol Knight and Alyce King; and great-grandson Cody Harer.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 19, at the Sweet Home Senior Center, 870 18th Avenue. Come share the celebration of Mr. Harer’s life. Bring jokes and stories.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Safe Haven Animal Shelter.
