Robert Hartsock

Robert Hartsock, 84, of Sweet Home, passed away Dec. 1, 2025.
He was born Aug. 4, 1941, in Elwood, Ind., to Ruth and Ralph Hartsock, one of seven children.
Robert earned a teaching degree from Ball State University and, later, a juris doctorate from the University of Hawaii.
He was a teacher in the territory of Guam for many years and served as a union organizer. After earning his law degree, he became the first federal defender for Guam.
Following retirement, he moved to Sweet Home, also living in Cascadia. He was involved in the United Methodist Church as a lay leader and helped revive Manna Meals. Robert served on the Bishop’s Task Force on Hunger. He also was an administrator at Sweet Home Emergency Ministries (SHEM).
Robert is survived by his wife, Frances Luther of Sweet Home; children, John Hartsock and wife Rebecca of Sumner, Wash.; Ann Hartsock of Sumner; Michael Hartsock and wife Jennifer of Oahu, Hawaii; and Kimberly Lolmaugh of Farmington, Minn.; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister; and a beloved grandson.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, at the United Methodist Church, 845 6th Ave. His ashes will be buried in Elwood on April 18.
