Robert Elwood Howes, 88, of Sweet Home died Feb. 11, 2007.
He was born to Charles and Ethel (Millard) Howes, the youngest of five children, in Sweet Home where he was raised.
Mr. Howes joined the Army and was a corporal in World War II, stationed in the Azores. He served as an airplane mechanic in the service. He met Patricia Joslyn in Blaine, Me. while based at Presque Isle Base. They were married in 1943.
He was a timber faller in his late teens and early 20s. He worked in several saw mills. In 1959 he started working for Veal’s Furniture, from which he retired.
Mr. Howes was a member of Cascadia Mennonite Church. He was a rock hound and loved deer hunting and gardening.
He is survived by daughters, Pamela Lewis and husband Howard, Linda Johnsson and husband Sven of Alaska; one granddaughter, four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia, in 2000; brothers, Paul and Doug; sisters, Georgia, Gladys and Florence and niece Carolyn.
Services were held Feb. 16 at Gilliland Cemetery.
