Robert Whitton

Robert “Bob” Bruce Whitton, 83, of Sweet Home died Jan. 4, 2015.

He was born March 18, 1931 in Falls City to Franklin Robert and Naomi (Robinson) Whitton.

He served in the United States Coast Guard from 1948 to 1952.

Mr. Whitton lived in Valsetz until he moved to Sweet Home in 1948. He entered the military and, upon his discharge, returned to Sweet Home. He worked on the Green Peter Dam and in the plywood mills until he retired.

Mr. Whitton loved to hunt with the Winchester guns he loved to hold and talk to his friends about. He enjoyed working with wood and made burl wood clocks.

He is survived by his children, Robert Dean Whitton and Loris David Whitton of Sweet Home, and Mark Douglas Whitton of Jacksonville; three step-children, Dan Carper of Sweet Home, Mike Carper of Montana, and Randy Carper of Sweet Home; a sister, Joan Spencer; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Mr. Whitton was preceded in death by a daughter, Michelle Renae Whitton (1983); brother Larry Whitton (1986); and parents Frank and Naomi Whitton.

A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel.
