Jan. 18, 1944 – June 15, 2011

Rodney Glen Keenon, 67, of Sweet Home died June 15, 2011 at Good Samaritan Regional Medical center in Corvallis.

He was born Jan. 18, 1944 in Lebanon to Ken and Mildred (Hergert) Keenon, also of Sweet Home.

He attended Sweet Home High School. He married Iris Kelly on April 19, 1963 in Butte, Mont. He served in the United States Navy in Vietnam, from 1965-1967. He then served in the Reserves until 1970.

After his military service he worked in the cable TV industry in Sweet Home, Coos Bay, Charleston, Powers and Myrtle Point. He eventually started Ken-Kel Construction in Sweet Home. On June 22, 1989 he started working for Linn County Parks. He worked there for 17 years and retired in 2006.

Mr. Keenon was an avid bowhunter and loved camping and fishing with his two sons and hunting buddies. He was a very social person. Every morning he would go to Skyline to enjoy his “roundtable” meetings, after which he would go to Lester Sales to visit with Jim Philpott and the crew.

He is survived by his wife, Iris Keenon; son Ken and daughter-in-law Sheila, and son Kelly and daughter-in-law Angie; brothers Rich, Leonard and Duane Keenon; sister Caroline Berg; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandsons, all of Sweet Home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ken and Mildred Keenon, and brother Larry Keenon.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 22 (the same date he started working with Linn County Parks), at Waterloo Park Picnic areas 1 and 2. A potluck lunch will follow.

Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
