Ronald Wiles

Ronald Wayne Wiles, 56, of Anchorage, Alaska, and formerly of Sweet Home, died on Jan. 24 at his home of a massive heart attack.

He was born in Lebanon, the son of Mayco and Walter Wiles. He lived in Oregon from 1952 to 1994.

He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1971. As a corporal in the Marines, he received medals for National Defense Service, a letter of appreciation and a rifle expert badge.

He had been a mechanic all his life. His hobbies included hunting, watching NASCAR, scuba diving, seeking knowledge and boxing.

He was an intelligent man with a sense of humor. He was protective of and devoted to his family and friends.

Mr. Wiles is survived by his wife of 33 years, Jerry Lynn Wiles of Anchorage; daughters, Ronda Howell of Salem and Virginia Marienthal of Petersburg, Va.; five grandchildren; and brothers, Ralph Wiles of Brookings and John and Gerald Wiles of Sweet Home.

He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Wiles.

A celebration of life was held Feb. 13 at the Sweet Home VFW Hall.

His cremated remains will be spread at his favorite hunting ground, Table Top.
