Emma Audrey Waibel, a junior at West Linn High School, was named the 100th Portland Rose Festival Queen in Portland on June 7.
She is the 17-year-old daughter of Robert Waibel and Shannon McBride. She is the granddaughter of Bob and Mona Waibel of Sweet Home.
Emma Waibel, speaking during the pageant, referred to her Sweet Home roots: “The smell of freshly cut wood and WD-40 reminds me of my childhood memories,” she said. “You see I am a fifth-generation lumberjill, a descendent of the Rhinestone Logger, but I call him Grandpa Bob.
“Many of my family memories consist of traveling to logging shows in Northwest communities, communities with their own traditions and distinctive flavor. I have memories of catching fish at the Morton Loggers Jubilee and sawing with my dad at the Brownsville Pioneer Picnic.”
