Roy Castle

Feb. 27, 1935 – May 21, 2013

Roy “Allen” Castle, 78, died of lung cancer at a hospice house in Salem on May 21, 2013.

He was born Feb. 27, 1935 near Rapid City, S.D. To Roy E. and Mary S. Castle, one of 11 siblings.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. After retiring as a truck driver, he worked for the Oregon Department of Forestry in a seniors program for several years. He was a lifetime member of Pine-way Golf Course, typically playing nine to 18 holes seven days a week.

He enjoyed working on cars and was always ready to help people with home repairs of all kinds. He loved looking for artifacts – old homestead treasures and arrowheads.

He is survived by a brother, Robert Castle of Astoria; two sisters, Alice Brech of Portland and Ida DeGarlais of North Bend; and numerous nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Bill, Harold, Carl, Virgil and Richard Castle; and two sisters, Rose Kursave and Fern Pollack.
