Roy Franklin Gaskey, 69, of Sweet Home passed away Wednesday April 1, 2015 of complications related to A.L.S.
He was born in Santa Maria, Calif. to Edward Gaskey & Frances (Phillips) Gaskey Fleury. Roy was raised in Wright City, Okla., coming to Oregon in 1958. His parents divorced in 1959 and Sweet Home became his “home town” until his death. He graduated from Sweet Home High School in 1964.
Roy and his wife Darlene were together for 46 years, having married in 1968.
They loved Sweet Home and being near family and lifelong friends. They returned here in 1986 and planted deep roots. Roy was a dedicated family man and community leader.
Roy worked for Pacific Power and Light Co. for 34 years, retiring in 2010. He held several journeyman cards, ending his career as a meter installer/repairman/technician/foreman.
He moved his family a number of times for his job, working in Junction City, Stayton, Yakima, Wash., Wilsonville and ending his career back in Albany. He truly cared for all of the men he worked with.
He was a volunteer member of the Sweet Home Fire Department, joining in 1970 and retiring after 38 years. He served in several capacities and the department. He truly loved it and the great camaraderie. The Fire Department was a big commitment in his life.

Hunting, camping and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events was what he loved to do. Very rarely did he miss one of their games.
Roy is survived by his wife, Darlene Honeywell Gaskey; sons Brent Gaskey and wife Shawna, and Brandon Gaskey and wife Sarah; grandchildren Kyler, Cade, Kelton and Kaitlyn Gaskey, all of Sweet Home; sister Nadine Egan Robertson of Lebanon; half-sisters Cheryl Gaskey, Gina Messer, Charlotte Lopez; step- brother Robert Gaskey; and his uncle, Jack and wife Bonita Phillips of Lebanon.
He was preceded in death by his half-sister, Alice Smith.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 11, at the Sweet Home Assembly of God Church, 800 Mountain View Road.
