Ruth Elizabeth DeRosier, 90, of Sweet Home, died March 26, 2009. She was born July 19, 1918 in Pomona, Calif., the daughter of Roy William and Frances Viola (Stevens) Wortman.
She met and later married Michael “Vince” DeRosier. They raised one son together.
In 1961 the DeRosiers felt they needed a lifestyle change and started looking for land they could farm. Their search brought them to the Liberty district, where they finally settled.
Mrs. DeRosier later moved to Sweet Home and continued working as a vision therapist for Dr. Kyle. She loved Sweet Home and was active in the community, joining the Sweet Home Chamber of Commerce and serving with The Ambassadors. She was also a past member of the Business and Professional Women Organization.
She is survived by her son, Jim and wife Jullia DeRosier of Salem; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews in Sweet Home, Albany and California.
Mrs. DeRosier was preceded in death by her husband, Michael DeRosier; and one brother, Robert Wortman.
A viewing will take place from 9 a.m. to noon on Thursday April 2, at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel. At her request a graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 2, 2009, at Gilliland Cemetery in Sweet Home.
