Ruth Alice Reed, 83, of Astoria, died April 3, 2010 in Astoria.
She was born Oct. 27, 1927 in Belle Fourche, S.D., the daughter of Harlow Augustus Reed and Emily Alice (LaFlamme) Reed.
She was married to Eugene Archie Reed near Coquille on Oct. 21, 1949. He died in 1999. She and Mr. Reed lived at the Reedsford Dairy near Myrtle Point. Their children were the fourth generation of the Reed family to live on the family dairy.
In 1971 they sold the ranch and moved into town. While in Myrtle Point she drove the Myrtle Point school bus for 16 years. She also lived in Sweet Home, then returned to Coquille then finally to Astoria.
Mrs. Reed’s hobbies were rock hounding and lapidary work, photography, sewing and quilting, and bird watching. Her church and faith in God were very important to her.
She is survived by a daughter, Janet Schmelzer and son-in-law David of Astoria; sons Eddie Reed of Astoria and Allen Reed and daughter-in-law LaRonda of Myrtle Point; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Burial was at the Reed-Hill Cemetery in Wilbur, next to her husband Eugene.
Arrangements are being handled by Ocean View Cremation and Burial Service of Astoria.
