RV goes up in flames

Update:

FIRE destroys a 1989 Jamboree RV in the 40300 block of Highway 228 on Saturday. Firefighters responded at about 4:12 p.m. According to the fire report, the RV had been sitting for awhile when owner Floyd Chase tried to take it out. Locals said he had been working on it and was taking it for a test drive. He quickly noticed liquid leaking and then smoke. He attempted to put it out with a fire extinguisher. About 13 firefighters responded to put out the fire. The cause is undetermined, although a fuel leak is suspected. The fire caused about $7,000 in damage. No one was injured. Above right, firefighters begin suppressing the fire, and at right, the fire is out. The fire closed both lanes of Highway 228 for about half an hour.

Fire destroyed a motor home in the 40300 block of Highway 228, just down the hill from Holley Church, Saturday afternoon.

Details were sketchy at the scene, but local residents said the vehicle belonged to a neighbor who had been working on it and had taken it out on a test drive. Witnesses said it appeared no one was injured. Traffic was held up in both lanes for about half an hour. Firefighters arrived approximately 4:15 p.m.
