S.H. grappler second at state Jr. High tourney

Sweet Home’s Shane Vandehei finished second over the weekend at the state junior high school state wrestling championships held at Woodburn.

Grapplers in all school classes competed at the event. Vandehei went into the competition as a district champion and was third at the Northwest Championship.

There were 24 wrestlers in Vandehei’s 80-pound weight class.

In the finals, Vandehei was decisioned 11-8 by Kyle Ocupe of Cascade.

This was Vandeheir’s third season of wrestling. He will now wrestle spring freestyle and Greco.

Vandehei is the son of Ivan and Debbie Vandehei of Sweet Home.
