S.H. students to compete Sat. at LEGO challenge

Sweet Home students are competing at a LEGO robotics challenge Saturday, Dec. 4 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Linus Pauling Middle School in Corvallis.

Student teams have worked for eight weeks to build a robot made of LEGOs, and have programmed it to navigate an obstacle course. The course focuses on solving challenges faced by people with disabilities.

Each team will compete nine times during the day for presentation, technical and teamwork awards. An awards ceremony will start at 3 p.m., announcing which teams will be sent on to the state tournament.

Twenty-two teams from around the Willamette Valley will compete at this event. Throughout Oregon, 13 other events will be held within the next weeks. The tournament is part of the U.S. For Inspiration and Robotics in Science and Technology project for middle schoolers. The FIRST LEGO League competition engages more than 40,000 students from around the world in research and robotics design for solving real-world challenges.
