Safety in spotlight

REACH Air Medical Services Paramedic Jeff Turner talks with Hailey Mitten, 7, left, and Jillian Lynn, 6, who are seated inside the REACH helicopter on display at the annual Safety Fair, held at Sweet Home Police Department Saturday morning.

City officials estimated more than 300 attended the fair. Children were able to license their bicycles for free with SHPD, attend a bike rodeo, get their fingerprints and photos recorded and receive free helmets. The public was able to use a shredder truck brought to the site by Linn-Co Federal Credit Union.

Many children who picked them up, for some reason, did not drop off their bicycle license registration forms, said Gina Riley of the SHPD. She urges children to drop those slips off at the department. Without doing that, the registration stickers on the bikes are useless in a theft. Call 367-5181 for more information.
