Samaritan warns of high blood pressure medicine recall

Samaritan pharmacies want the community to be aware of a recent recall of a drug that is primarily used to treat high blood pressure.
Teva Pharmaceuticals USA voluntarily recalled prazosin hydrochloride capsules, also called N-nitroso Prazosin impurity C, because the pills may contain nitrosamine impurities linked to potential cancer risk.
Fewer than 1% of Samaritan Pharmacy customers received prescriptions from the affected lots.  Samaritan recognizes that patients may fill prescriptions at various pharmacies or receive care from other providers. All community members — whether under Samaritan care or with neighboring providers — are encouraged to consult with their pharmacist or health care provider to determine if their prazosin hydrochloride capsules are part of the recall. If you have concerns or want to explore alternative medications, call or contact your health care provider via MyChart.
Prazosin hydrochloride is commonly prescribed to treat high blood pressure and may also be used off-label for PTSD-related symptoms. The FDA advises that the risk of serious adverse health consequences is remote, but exposure to the impurity may cause temporary or medically reversible effects.
