Christmas Eve carol singalong at American Legion

Local residents,  top, sing Christmas carols on Christmas Eve at the new American Legion post (formerly Fir Lawn Lutheran Church) at the corner of Holley Road and 1st Avenue. The event drew nearly 100 people, who enjoyed treats and sang Christmas carols. Mack Greyling, right,  spoke to the crowd about the birth of Jesus Christ. The Georgia Peaches and the Pit above,  led the singalong.

Purple Ball Donation

Cindy Rice, center, and Julie Dedman of SHEM accept a $3,000 donation from the Sweet Home Elks Lodge. The money, from the Elks’ Purple Ball fundraiser, will contribute to SHEM’s community projects.

Hwy 20 Rollover

Emergency responders work at the scene of a single-vehicle crash that occurred shortly after 4 p.m. on Christmas, Dec. 25, near Milepost 26 on Hwy. 20 in the Narrows. According to OSP, multiple witnesses reported that the driver of the 2007 Toyota Camry, Zoe F. Giddings, 18, of Albany, lost control of the vehicle while navigating a curve “at high speeds.” The vehicle left the roadway and rolled multiple times. The driver and a passenger were transported to Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center with varying injuries, according to OSP. An investigation was “ongoing” at press time. Photo by Scott Swanson
