Saturday event to showcase Sweet Home-area businesses

The Sweet Home Chamber of Commerce will host a promotional event featuring local businesses from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday in the Boys and Girls Club gym, 890 18th Ave.

The event, “We Love Our Local Businesses,” started out as a business expo planned for the city’s Harvest Festival in October, said chamber Executive Manager Andrea Culy. A lack of human resources led to cancellation and rescheduling.

“Originally, the concept was to bring businesses to one location so that people could see what the businesses have to offer,”

Culy said. “It would give the businesses the opportunity to network. It started out with a different intent, but it has ended up being very similar to the Sale-a-bration (although not with garage sale items).”

The primary response to the chamber has been from home-based businesses and nonprofit organizations, similar to the vendors that attend the Harvest Festival, Culy said. The event is open to nonprofit organizations, chamber members, non-members, small businesses and large corporations.

So far, 29 businesses have signed up to be at the event, Culy said.

The event will likely continue, Culy said, although who would organize it and how often remain unknown.

“I think that what’s important is to keep having events and marketing it regionally to get regional visitors,” Culy said.

After attending the chamber event, visitors may be inclined to spend the weekend in Sweet Home and attend the Art on Display event at Marks Ridge Winery on Feb. 14 when the winery is planning to unveil a new wine.

The chamber event will include concessions and entertainment, including Gypsy Circle Dance Studio, Gypsy Rhythms and Jobe Woosely and October Rising playing acoustic music. October Rising has played at the Chamber of Commerce’s After Hours. Door prizes will be awarded along with a 50-50 raffle.

The event will include displays, samples and information from local businesses.

Spaces are still available. For more information, call the chamber at 367-6186 or visit the Sweet Home Chamber of Commerce or the Oregon at its Best page on
