Arbor Day Celebration at Sankey Park
Sweet Home celebrated its 38th year as a Tree City USA with an Arbor Day observance Saturday afternoon, April 26, at Sankey Park.
Wally Shreves, chair of the city Park and Tree Committee, delivered an informative short history of Arbor Day referencing Theodore Roosevelt and his commitment to planting trees for our children. In the front row, listening, were members of this year’s Sportsman Holiday Junior Court.
Also part of the celebration were four information booths: Arbor Day, manned by Tree and Park Committee members, the Beautification Committee, Pacific Power and a bee booth.
Participants enjoyed free hotdogs and lemonade, along with games of Jenga, bean bag toss, Frisbee golf and parachute, which were a hit, keeping kids and adults busy.
The event was moved last year to Sankey Park after being held at various parks in Sweet Home, such as North Side and Evergreen Loop.
