Jim Bean Safety Fair

District booth Saturday, June 21, at Sweet Home’s annual Safety Fair, held at Sankey Park. The arrival of rain didn’t douse the enthusiasm of families and individual kids, who showed up to test their bike skills, enjoy a petting zoo, eat hot dogs and more.

9th Annual American Man

On June 14, Flag Day, the 9th Annual Honoring the American Man was held. Following the dinner and awards an auction was held earning funds for local organizations. $1000 was earned: $500 going to Linn County Search and Rescue in memory of Jim Search and the other $500 was given to the Sweet Home VFW Honor Guard/Color Guard.

Shown presenting $500 to Stanley Gray who is the Color Guard Sergeant is Nancy Patton (creator and director of Honoring the American Man) and Sheri McDonald who serves with Patton creating events. Stanley Gray has been the Color Guard Sergeant for 10 years. Part of his responsibilities are teaching schools about flag etiquette, taking part in parades, attending school functions and games, and participating in funerals for the military, firemen and police. They also participate in Memorial Day events. For more information on the activities of Honor Guard/ Color Guard contact the local Sweet Home VFW.

 

Sweet Home Community Pool hosted its Pool Party Friday, June 13.
