Sankey trees replaced

Lena Tucker of the Sweet Home Park and Tree Committee, at right, and Sean Hegge of the city Public Works Department plant an Akebono cherry tree at Sankey Park March 4. They planted three trees to replace some that had succumbed to drought or last year’s ice storms. One, a Pacific fire vine maple, was planted near the former Girl Scout hut location in memory of the late longtime Sweet Home Planning Director Carol Lewis. Also planted was a flowering plum. The city will celebrate Arbor Day at Sankey on April 26.

The New Era went with Gina Riley on a visit to her grandson, Colby Montigue, in Fargo, N.D.. They  took a side trip to Phelps Mill Park outside Maine, Minn., where this photo was taken. (If they look bundled up, it’s because, Gina reported, it was 20 degrees below zero.)
