Safety first at Sweet Home’s Sankey Park

Multiple agencies and nonprofits participated in the event. Although an official count wasn’t taken, dozens of kids showed up to register for the free bike drawing and test their skills on the bike course. Nine bikes were given away, purchased with donations to the Sweet Home Police Department’s kids programs, and from Radiator Supply and Sherri Gregory Real Estate, along with Lego sets. Also, Thriftway provided food that was prepared by the Sweet Home Elks. Thirteen volunteers from 44 North credit union showed up to help as well.

Sweet Home Jazz Band performs fundraiser gig
Audience members, at left, applaud the Sweet Home High School Jazz Band after a nearly hour-long performance of pieces the members have been working on for the past two years, some of which they were unable to perform last year.
The band held a fundraiser concert and spaghetti dinner on June 11, the last day of school. Money raised at the event, which also included a silent auction and a dessert auction, will go toward the Band Council retreat, and the inventory or instruments, which director Lori Tuter has been working to rebuild since she took over the band three years ago. At left, Tristan Young delivers some guitar riffs during the concert.

Lacomb’s Community Market
The Lacomb Grange opened its weekly Community Market this weekend, showcasing a variety of items for sale, including plants, handmade wooden furniture, homemade products, food and other items, including baby goats.
The market, held from 1-4 p.m. every Sunday until Aug. 31, at 34100 E Lacomb Road, includes an opportunity to not only sell things and meet people, but also grab a meal inside the grange. This first week, the grange sold “walking tacos.”
