Learning Water Safety

Students at Oak Heights School in Sweet Home show off some of the gear and skills they learned from a visit by representatives from the Oregon State Marine
Board Thursday, March 12. OSMB has developed an educational program that focuses on boating and water safety for presentation in schools and camps,
which are free for the asking. The presentations are approximately 30 minutes long and teach concepts that prepare students to stay safe when they are in or
around water, which in turn creates new opportunities for students to explore and enjoy Oregon’s waterways. Oak Heights PE teacher Logan Shea said,
“Students learned how to put on life jackets correctly and played a relay game where they got to throw a life preserver at an inflatable person that needed
help.” More presentations are planned at the school later in the spring.
