The School Board approved a calendar for the 2016-17 school year Monday during its regular meeting.
Schools will remain on a trimester system, and daily schedules will continue as they are this year.
School will start on Sept. 5 and finish on June 12, 2017 with an early release. Graduation will be held on June 9, 2017.
The schedule includes 149 instructional days and 178 contract days.
The board voted 8-0 to approve the calendar. resent and voting yes were Jason Van Eck, Jenny Daniels, Chanz Keeney, Jason Redick, Reynolds, Carol Babcock, Debra Brown and Nick Augsburger. Angela Clegg was absent.
The board also approved a sole-source purchase to upgrade heating control system at Sweet Home High School.
Part of the High School is already on a newer system manufactured by Alerton. An older system is in use in the auto shop, metal shop, art building and forest products building, and Maintenance Supt. said the current software to operate the existing Alerton system is not compatible with operating systems past Windows XP and needs to be upgraded as well.
Mike Rice of the district’s maintenance department explained that the older Staepha system and software are outdated, cumbersome and not user friendly.
The cost to switch systems and upgrade the software will be $38,533. District staff sought board approval because the system is available only through a single source, the official regional vendor, Environmental Controls Corp. of Lake Oswego.
The upgrades will be funded from the district’s long-term maintenance fund.
