School bus rear-ended at railroad tracks

Medics and Sweet Home police responded to a two-vehicle crash on Pleasant Valley Road on Friday, Feb. 13.

The crash, which occurred at approximately 3:30 p.m., involved a truck and a school bus at the railroad tracks just off Highway 20.

A letter from the school district’s transportation department to parents reported that the school bus for Route 52 was stopped at the railroad tracks, which it is required to do, when the driver of the truck ran into the bus. The truck’s front end was heavily damaged and the bus had slight damage.

The students were reported to be safe and were transferred to a different bus for transportation home. The truck driver appeared to be OK, although her airbag deployed.

“We are thankful that no students reported any injuries at the scene,” said Darel Bidwell, District 55 transportation director, in a letter to parents. “We are truly relieved that everyone is safe.”

No other information has been provided at this time. The New Era will update the story as more details emerge.
