School year to get one-day extension, thanks to snow

The District 55 School Board Monday night agreed to extend the school year by one day to make up for the school day canceled due to snow, Nov. 23.

The unions and the board agreed to count that day as one of the four furlough days scheduled this year to save money. June 16, one of the original furlough days, will be the last day of school for students instead of June 15.

The board also approved a list of qualifications for prospective superintendents. The district will post the position this week. Closing date on the job listing will be Jan. 21. The board plans to appoint a screening committee at its Jan. 10 meeting.
