The annual “Scouting for Food” is scheduled for Saturday, November 22 which coincides with the annual Civil War football game between OSU and U of O.
This year, Scouts will be asking the community to donate canned food and non-perishable items in support of their favorite team, either Oregon State Beavers or the University of Oregon Ducks!
Here is your opportunity to show everyone who the top team really is! There will be a “Duck Truck” and a “Beaver Truck” and the trucks will be weighed separately at the conclusion of the event. Get your neighborhood game plan ready to support your favorite team! We also hope to have local radio support providing hourly updates and follow-up information for the event.
Sweet Home area Cub Scout Packs and Boy Scout Troops will participate in canvassing their neighborhoods for non-perishable canned goods to help replenish our community food bank for the upcoming holidays.
Last year, Scouts in Oregon and Southwestern Washington collected nearly 400,000 pounds of food which went to benefit local hunger relief agencies. Sweet Home Scouts will be in full uniform and will be collecting canned food items from 8:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.
If the Scouts should miss your home, you may drop off donations on Saturday, November 22 at the LBCC/Mollie’s Bakery parking lot area collection site between the hours of 9 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. Some suggested donation items are peanut butter, tuna, beans, soups, chili, pasta, rice, canned vegetables and fruits, and macaroni and cheese. Also welcomed are donations of household paper products, laundry, dish, and hand soap, and school supplies.
Holley and Crawfordsville areas will be joining the Sweet Home area Scouting for Food event. There will be two convenient drop sites equipped with a “Beaver Box” and a “Duck Box” available for Crawfordsville and Holley areas from 9 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.
One site will be located outside the front door of the Holley Store and the other will be stationed just outside the front entrance of the Crawfordsville Market. Cub Scouts in uniform will be also be collecting items door-to-door in downtown Crawfordsville.
All items collected in Sweet Home will be delivered to Sweet Home Emergency Ministries following the event.
This service project invites the community’s participation, and we hope that you make time to support in the fight against hunger in our area.
