A Sweet Home man has been arrested for animal abuse after allegedly injuring a dog.
Brandon Earl Clark, 27, was arrested for first-degree animal abuse, for allegedly “causing serious injury to a 5-year-old male gray and white pit bull mix,” Sheriff Bruce Riley said.
Riley said the dog belongs to Cameron Wade Clark, 23, of Sweet Home, the brother of Brandon Clark.
He said Linn County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control received a report on Aug. 5 about a Facebook post that a dog had to be put down by its owner due to injuries it received from being thrown to the ground.
On Aug. 6, deputies responded to the 28000 block of Scott Mountain Road in Sweet Home and spoke with Cameron Clark. Cameron told deputies that on Aug. 4 his brother Brandon was angry at his dog when it nipped another dog while it was eating. Brandon Clark picked up the dog and slammed it to the ground, causing its back and hips to break, Riley said. He said Cameron Clark told deputies the dog was so severely injured he felt it was best to put it down.
Deputies then contacted Brandon Clark, who also lives at the residence. Clark admitted to deputies he threw the dog to the ground. He said the dog’s hips and back appeared to be broken and it was unable to walk. He told deputies he tried to give the dog some water but it started vomiting.
Clark was arrested and transported to the Linn County Jail.
Riley noted that this is the second arrest his office has made for animal abuse within a week. He would like to remind people if they are unable to properly care for their dog or wish to give it up for adoption to contact Linn County Animal Control at (541) 967-3925.
