Selma Hermans

Selma W. Hermans, 86, of Sweet Home died June 2, 2006. She was born in Kintire, N.D. to Anton and Hilda Marie (Mackie) Pekkola.
Her family moved to Carlton and she married Herold Hermans in 1941 in Willamina. The couple met while working at the same mill. They moved to Sweet Home while the town was growing in the early 1940s. Mr. Hermans worked in the mill while she worked as the bookkeeper.
Mrs. Hermans was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church. She was always very active in church life and involved in volunteer work with the Sweet Home Senior Center. She was a member of Royal Neighbors of America and the Sweet Home Garden Club. She especially loved her flowers.
She is survived by her children, Dennis Hermans of Sweet Home and Judy Berry of Portland; brother, Eli Pekkola of Carlton; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Her husband and 10 brothers and sisters preceded her in death.
Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 7, at Bethel Lutheran Church. Final burial will take place in McMinnville. Memorial contributions can be sent to Bethel Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod in care of Workman & Steckly Funeral Chapel 1443 Long St. Sweet Home, OR 97386.
